Zurich Film Festival (ZFF)
Premier handles international publicity for the Zurich Film Festival working alongside the ZFF in-house team, supporting on all aspects of the Festival’s publicity but with a focus on international (non-Swiss) press.
Last year’s festival took place from September 27-October 7, 2018. The programme had three strands within the Competition film section: International films from first, second and third time directors; International documentaries from first, second and time third directors and Focus for Swiss, German and Austrian films and documentaries. 2018 saw the introduction of the ZFF Series Competition section for Best International TV Series. Alongside this were Gala Premieres, Special Screenings, New World Section, Border Lines, Window to the World, TVision and a Children’s Films section.
The winner of the International Feature Film Competition was the Belgian production GIRL by Lukas Dhont. Danish film THE GUILTY by Gustav Möller, another debut work, won the Critics’ Choice Award. The Award for Best International Documentary Film went to HEARTBOUND by Janus Metz and Sine Plambech from Denmark, and Katharina Mueckstein from Austria took home the award in the Focus: Switzerland, Germany Austria competition category for her film L’ANIMALE. The Emerging Swiss Talent Award for a Swiss film in the Entire Programme went to the debut WALDEN by Daniel Zimmermann, which also screened in the Focus section.
Filmmakers and guests who attended the festival included: Viggo Mortensen, Peter Farrelly, Dame Judi Dench, Donald Sutherland, Johnny Depp, Holliday Grainger, Annabel Jankel, Kevin Macdonald, Pawel Palikowski, Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, David Kross, Jennifer Fox, Max Irons, Gabrielle Tana, Dev Patel, John C. Reilly and Wim Wenders.
ZFF also hosted the Film Summit, an industry event covering finance, converging media, debates on topical issues and top level networking events over two days.
