Marin Alsop

Marin Alsop is music director of the Baltimore and the São Paulo Symphony Orchestras and enjoys an ongoing relationship with many of the world’s leading orchestras. A great musician and communicator, Alsop has been an inspiring pioneer for women conductors who has truly changed the face of the music industry.

Albion Media has worked with Alsop for over 12 years on her international PR and more recently on establishing and running Alsop’s social media activities and website. Albion Media project managed a website redesign and a successful social media launch in 2013 ahead of her Last Night of the Proms announcement and now manages this alongside her official social media channels. Alsop’s commitment to social issues is something Albion Media has promoted through social media and her website so that her passion for education and communities reaches a global audience. Recent work has included propagating Marin’s statement about the riots in Baltimore and her taking the Baltimore Symphony onto the streets of the city to give a free concert which trended on Twitter and was reported in the international media including the Washington Post and the New York Times.

Albion Media worked on Marin’s last seasons with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and her appointments in Baltimore and São Paulo as well as her work at her festival of contemporary music in Cabrillo and regular guest conducting dates with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Concertgebouw, New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic and many others.

Alsop has enjoyed continuous high level exposure in all areas of the international media including all the major newspapers and TV & Radio networks. Major events that have attracted huge media coverage include Marin becoming the first woman to conduct the Last Night of the Proms and the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra’s two European tours with her.

As someone passionate about demystifying classical music and the life-changing role it can play Marin Alsop has turned to Albion Media to help promote and originate projects that utilise her incredible ability to connect with people. Initiatives have included the founding of OrchKids, a landmark education project involving Marin and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra with Baltimore’s most deprived children; a series of 20 short films that demystify what a conductor does that Albion Media have secured a deal with Classic FM to host and promote; lectures at Harvard University and Marin’s numerous education programmes with the children of São Paulo that reach many tens of thousands a year.

As Alsop’s a prolific recording artist and broadcaster she has asked Albion Media to work with her various recording labels and broadcast partners to initiate and implement promotional campaigns for her. This has involved working with such organisations as National Public Radio, BBC Radios 3 and 4, Naxos, Decca, iTunes and Google.
