Judy

October brought rain, but also rainbows; star of JUDY, Renée Zellweger, along with its supporting cast and filmmakers were out in force for the UK release of the biopic of iconic entertainer, Judy Garland. Praise has been raining down on Zellweger for her performance as Garland towards the end of her life, when on tour at London’s Talk of the Town in 1969. The Premier Film team’s UK and International divisions handled on behalf of Pathe.
The film is directed by Rupert Goold, who theatre fans will know as artistic director of the Almeida Theatre, and also stars Jessie Buckley, Rufus Sewell, Michael Gambon, Andy Nyman and Finn Wittrock.
Zellweger completed huge amounts of press including interviews for BBC1’s Graham Norton Show, key radios and several magazine and supplement covers.
The film's European premiere at the Curzon Mayfair was also media managed by the Premier Film team. In attendance were the key cast and filmmakers and for once the heavy downpours proved a blessing not a curse. When Zellweger and co posed under rainbow brollies, the headlines wrote themselves and the next day saw almost saturation coverage across the national news, including the front page of the Guardian.
Premier’s Awards team are also handling the BAFTA campaign for the film, which has so far included a Q&A screening with Renée Zellweger, Rufus Sewell, Rupert Goold, writer Tom Edge and producer David Livingstone. Further awards screenings are due to take place in the coming months, with many journalists and cinemagoers already tipping Zellweger for awards glory next year.
